Attorney General Eric Holder announced today in a statement that the U.S. Government will no longer defend Section 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in court because the official position of the Department of Justice is that DOMA violates the U.S. Constitution. This is the section of DOMA that says for purposes of federal law, marriage is defined as one man and one woman. More to come.
